MOHAMMED Khoja is synonymous with his brand Hindamme’s ethos. There’s not a single creative work of art he does without reference to his past or his vision of the future. While his fashion house launched with a collection of embroidered bomber jackets that referenced Saudi heritage in a so-now streetwear way (clever), it has expanded beyond measure and reaches audiences that wouldn’t normally partake in a luxury, ‘chill’, ready-to-wear wardrobe. His designs are exhibited in international museums such as the V&A, London, no less, and the National Museum of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. How has he done it?
It’s the ‘bridging approach’ to fashion design that has rendered success for this Saudi-born designer: he innately understands that today’s world is local and global. Make a universally cool garment that has a story. Deliver a patriotically-sound collection that can be worn anywhere.
Mohammed Khoja’s genius is being able to stride into fashion industry rooms across continents without losing his roots. But who is the man behind the brand? Well, the editorial team at D1st already has just the right ten questions lined up for Mr Khoja…

Jalal al-Din al-Rumi or Khalil Gibran, for their spiritual, poetic, and timeless voices.

Hard to pinpoint just one — but Madonna’s Ray of Light always inspires me for its transcendence and reinvention.
#3 You don't collect this item but you could so easily have indulged in building a museum of...?
Artifacts and storytelling objects , reflections of civilizations, cultures and eras. What they had to say at the time and how they wanted to convey it.
#4 It's 11am on a Sunday morning, what are you most often doing at that time?
With family. Being with them grounds me and gives me balance.
